Old Manila Vibes in Pasig

Honestly, Pasig Proper feels completely different from the modern glass towers of Ortigas. Here, the streets are much narrower, and you will see old heritage houses sharing space with busy commercial establishments. Commuting around here is quite an adventure. Tricycles dominate the streets, and they have their own organized hubs that can get pretty chaotic. You can also get here via the Pasig River Ferry, which is a surprisingly cool and traffic-free way to travel if you are coming from Manila or Makati. The traffic on the road, especially near the cathedral and the city hall, is notoriously bad during peak hours, so walking is usually the faster option anyway.

Local Eats and Heritage Landmarks

So, the main highlight here is definitely the food and history. You have the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, which is one of the oldest churches in the region, right in the center of the town. Just a heads up, the area around the cathedral gets packed on Sundays. If you get hungry, you should definitely check out Dimas-Alang Bakery, which has been baking fresh bread since 1919. Their pan de lunas and other traditional snacks are cheap and delicious. For a heavier meal, the Pasig Mega Market is massive and has plenty of local carinderias serving home-cooked Filipino dishes. It is a fantastic spot if you want to experience the authentic daily life of Pasigueños without the high price tags of the malls.
