Nostalgia on the Tagaytay Ridge
If you are looking for that classic Tagaytay experience, Taal Vista Hotel is pretty much where it all started. Long before the ridge was lined with condos and modern coffee shops, this hotel was already the go-to spot for Manila's elite. Honestly, the Tudor-style architecture gives the place a very nostalgic, old-school feel that sets it apart from the newer developments. The highlight here is their outdoor viewing deck. It's a massive, manicured lawn where you can just sit on the grass or grab an outdoor table to enjoy the cool Tagaytay breeze.
Just a heads up, the hotel gets extremely busy during the weekends, with day-trippers visiting just to take photos on the ridge. If you want to skip the crowd, you can book a table at the Lobby Lounge for afternoon high tea, or have lunch at Veranda, their in-house buffet restaurant. Their local Batangas beef bulalo is decent, though it is definitely priced higher than what you'd pay at the local carinderias or the nearby Mahogany Market. But then again, you are paying for the view and the premium atmosphere.
Commuting from Manila: Santa Rosa Route and PITX Buses
Getting to Taal Vista from Metro Manila is a classic road trip. If you are driving, you'll want to take SLEX and exit at Santa Rosa, then drive up the Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Road. Alternatively, you can take the newer CALAX route to save a bit of time, though you'll still have to deal with the inevitable bottleneck once you reach the Tagaytay rotunda. For commuters, you can ride a bus heading to Tagaytay, Nasugbu, or Alfonso from the PITX terminal in Parañaque. Ask the driver to drop you off right in front of Taal Vista Hotel along Aguinaldo Highway. Traffic on Aguinaldo Highway is a regular weekend headache, so plan to arrive before lunch to beat the heaviest volume.
