Under the Historic Dome of Cubao
The Big Dome has been the home of massive concerts in the Philippines for decades. From legendary boxing matches to the biggest K-pop groups, Araneta Coliseum has seen it all. Just across the street is the New Frontier Theater, which hosts slightly more intimate gigs. If you're a concert-goer in Manila, you've definitely experienced the hype of queuing up here for merch or waiting at the artist exit. Honestly, the indoor acoustics in both venues are solid, and the circular seating of the Big Dome makes you feel close to the stage even from the upper box seats.
There are plenty of dining options around Gateway Mall, Cyberpark, and Shopwise, so you can easily grab a meal before the gates open. Honestly, the food inside the coliseum is overpriced and the lines for hotdogs and popcorn are ridiculously long. Eat a heavy meal beforehand so you don't have to miss any part of the opening act while standing in line inside.
Leaving the Arena Post-Show
Commuting to Cubao is actually pretty convenient because it's a major transit interchange. You can take the MRT-3 or the LRT-2 and walk through the air-conditioned Gateway Mall directly to the coliseum. But leaving the venue after a sold-out concert is a whole different story. Getting a Grab is almost impossible because of high demand, and the booking fares skyrocket. Taxi drivers will try to contract you for ridiculous flat rates. Your best bet is to walk a few blocks away from the coliseum towards Aurora Boulevard or EDSA to find a jeepney or hail a ride. If the concert ends past midnight, the trains are closed, so modern jeepneys and buses along EDSA become your only public transit options.
